<h3><span style="color: #888888;">What is iPhoneModem</span></h3>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">iPhoneModem enables sharing of the iPhone&#8217;s Internet connection with your Mac or PC.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">It&#8217;s a simple and small footprint application for the iPhone and the Desktop Computer that anyone can use on a few seconds.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">iPhoneModem is available for Jailbreaked devices using the </span><a title="iPhoneModem on Cydia" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/links/cydia');" rel="ss1" href="http://mobilenetconnect.com/wordpress/wp-admin/thumbs/cydia.png"><span style="color: #888888;">cydia package manager</span></a><span style="color: #888888;"> on the phone.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">To make connecting a one click task, you should also download the helper application for your computer.</span></p>
<h3><span style="color: #888888;">How does it work</span></h3>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">iPhoneModem has two sides: the Modem application on the iPhone and the iPhoneModem helper for the Mac or the PC.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">On the computer, the helper application creates a new computer-to-computer (or ad-hoc) WiFi network and configures the system preferences to use the iPhone as an Internet gateway and proxy.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">On the iPhone, the application opens a routing engine, DHCP, DNS, HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS proxies and connects to the helper on the computer.</span></p>
<h3><span style="color: #888888;">How to Install</span></h3>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">1. </span><a onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/links/jailbreakGuide');" href="http://mobilenetconnect.com/wordpress/wp-admin/jailbreakGuide.pdf"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Jailbreak</span></a><span style="color: #888888;"><span style="color: #0000ff;"> </span>the iPhone (if you haven&#8217;t already)</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">2. On the iPhone use &#8220;Cydia&#8221; to install iPhoneModem &#8211; it&#8217;s filed on the Networking category. After installing a new App named &#8220;Modem&#8221; should be available on the iPhone.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">3. Download and install the </span><a onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/links/helperApp');" href="http://mobilenetconnect.com/wordpress/wp-admin/#ahelper"><span style="color: #0000ff;">helper application</span></a><span style="color: #888888;">.</span></p>
<h3><span style="color: #888888;">How to Use it</span></h3>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">After installing iPhoneModem on the phone and on the computer, open the iPhoneModem on the computer and click &#8220;connect&#8221;.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">A new WiFi network is created by the computer and, on the iPhone you should select it and open the &#8220;Modem&#8221; application. When connected everything should be automatically configured</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">How-To Screenshots:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">Step 1:  Open on the mac and click connect</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #888888;">At the iPhone OS 3.0 event held earlier this week, Apple execs let it slip that tethering is a feature of the new OS. Apple has done their part, now, it was up to the carriers to enable it on their end. Well, you know, we just couldn&#8217;t wait. Here is a detailed guide as to how to enable tethering on an Phone 3G via USB. Bluetooth in 3.0 has some connection issues that I haven&#8217;t been able to get around as yet.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #888888;">Disclaimer: MyAppleGuide is not responsible for any charges incurred as a result of this install. We are also not responsible for any damage to your hardware or software. </span></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">With that said, let&#8217;s dive in!</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">What I&#8217;m using: iTunes 8.2, iPhone OS 3.0, MacBook Pro Unibody 15&#8243;, connection cable. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;"><strong>To enable tethering, please have iTunes 8.2 installed along with the iPhone 3.0 OS.</strong> </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">Before you proceed, open Terminal (Applications&gt;Utilities&gt;Terminal) and type the following:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #888888;">Step 1</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">Update your carrier settings. </span><a href="http://www.myappleguide.com/system/files/file/ATT_US_ipcc.zip"><span style="color: #888888;">Download this file</span></a><span style="color: #888888;">.  With your iPhone connected, in iTunes, Option+click on &#8220;Check for Updates&#8221; and update using the downloaded file. (FiIe courtesy of </span><a href="http://www.joachimbean.com/Computer_Inventory/News/Entries/2009/3/19_Tethering_on_iPhone_OS_3.0_over_AT%26T.html"><span style="color: #888888;">Joachim Bean</span></a><span style="color: #888888;">)</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #888888;">Step 2</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">On Your iPhone, go to Settings&gt;General&gt;Network and turn on Internet Tethering</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;"> <a href="http://mobilenetconnect.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/310.PNG"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1369" title="3" src="http://mobilenetconnect.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/310.PNG" alt="3" width="497" height="375" /></a></span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #888888;">Step 3</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">Quit iTunes, and disconnect and reconnect your iPhone. You will see the following prompt when it is reconnected:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;"> <a href="http://mobilenetconnect.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/311.PNG"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1370" title="3" src="http://mobilenetconnect.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/311.PNG" alt="3" width="428" height="158" /></a></span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #888888;">Open Network Preferences and Apply the new settings.</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;"> <a href="http://mobilenetconnect.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/312.PNG"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1371" title="3" src="http://mobilenetconnect.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/312.PNG" alt="3" width="500" height="158" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #888888;">Your iPhone should now have a blue color and displaying tethering at top. If you have any questions, let me know. </span></p>

<strong>Step Fifteen</strong></span><strong><br />
</strong><span style="color: #888888;">You should now be able to insert the SIM of your choice!</p>
<p>***HINTS: It seems that getting your iPhone to pick up your new carrier can be helped by turning off 3G and perhaps toggling the Airplane Mode switch on and off. If you are still having problems try removing and reinserting the SIM or booting with the new SIM already inside. Finally, you can also try to Reset </span><a href="http://hacktheiphoneitouch.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-to-unlock-iphone-3g-mac-and-windows.html" target="_top"><span style="color: #888888;">Network</span></a><span style="color: #888888;"> Settings from the Settings:General:Reset Menu.</p>
<p>***IMPORTANT: For those having trouble. The yellowsn0w </span><a href="http://hacktheiphoneitouch.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-to-unlock-iphone-3g-mac-and-windows.html" target="_top"><span style="color: #888888;">application</span></a><span style="color: #888888;"> can simply be uninstalled. If you have tried all the hints and suggestions and still have problems just use Cydia to remove the package and then reboot. You will then have service with your locked carrier as always.</p>
<p>***THANKS: A big thank you to all the members of the iPhone Dev-Team for all their hard work! It is much appreciated by all.</p>
<p>***UPDATES: The Dev-Team has made the following updates&#8230;<br />
1. Soon you’ll see yellowsn0w 0.9.1 in the repos. It uses a much longer delay to let your SIM card initialize. If you have problems with 0.9.0, try this one and wait a full minute after you see homescreen, then reinsert sim card. We need both success and failure reports to tune this across the world, so please be patient (but please also report result!)<br />
2. If you are in the U.S. and are trying this with T-Mobile, you must turn off the 3G switch in Settings. Also if you are good with the command line, you can make it much easier by adding the line -q right after the /usr/bin/yellowsn0w line in /</span><a href="http://hacktheiphoneitouch.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-to-unlock-iphone-3g-mac-and-windows.html" target="_top"><span style="color: #888888;">System</span></a><span style="color: #888888;">/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.iphone-dev.yellowsn0w.plist (that’s and advanced tip, hopefully someone will make a boosprefs type of tool for it)<br />
3. No PIN support yet. Remember how we said this was beta? Well we’re still working out the flow for SIMs with PINs enabled. Please disable any PIN you may have on that SIM before trying yellowsn0w, for now..</span></p>

<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/img_00012.png"></a> <a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/img_00062.png"></a> NOTE: If you can’t find 3proxy in Cydia it’s likely because you have selected “User” when Cydia asked “Who Are You?” In order to make 3proxy appear in the list of available applications you will need to change this to “Developer”.</p>
<ol>
<li>Tap Manage</li>
<li>Tap Settings (top left)</li>
<li>Tap Developer (no filters)</li>
</ol>
<p>Now go back to search and type 3proxy and the application should be visible.</p>
<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/img_0001_21.png"></a> <strong>3. Create a Custom Toggle For 3proxy in Boss Prefs</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Open Boss Prefs</li>
<li>Tap Config (top left)</li>
</ul>
<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/img_00053.png"></a> Tap Add (top right)</p>
<ul>
<li>Fill In Information for Custom Toggle</li>
<li>Tap Save (top right)</li>
</ul>
<p>The start, stop, and process fields are <strong>CASE-SENSITIVE</strong>, make sure to type the following exactly as I have it:</p>
<p>Name:<br />

<p><strong>Start:</strong><br />
/usr/bin/socks &amp;</p>
<p><strong>Stop:</strong><br />
killall socks</p>
<p><strong>Process:</strong><br />

<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/img_00073.png"></a> Setting up your computer to use the proxy</p>
<p>Mac Users:</p>
<p><strong>1. Create an Ad-Hoc WiFi Connection</strong></p>
<p>First, we need to create a private WiFi connection between our computer and the iPhone. Click the airport icon in the toolbar at the top of the screen and choose ‘Create Network’.</p>
<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/picture-21.png"></a></p>
<p>When prompted type the name of your network. We’ll use ‘iPhone NetShare’ so we can easily identify our network on the phone.</p>
<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/picture-41.png"></a></p>
<p>Leave all other settings at default and click ‘OK’</p>
<p><strong>2. Join iPhone to Ad-hoc Network</strong></p>
<p>We now need to have our iPhone join the same network so it’s visible from the computer. On the iPhone goto Settings -&gt; WiFi and select our newly created ‘iPhone NetShare’ network from the list.</p>
<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/img_00017.png"></a></p>
<p>After joining the network (check mark next to the name), then we can tap the blue arrow to the right of the network to enter some custom address settings.</p>
<ol>
<li>Tap Blue Arrow</li>
<li>Tap ‘Static’ at top of settings page</li>
<li>Enter 10.10.10.10 for IP Address</li>
<li>Enter 255.255.255.0 for Subnet Mask</li>
<li>Press Home button to return to springboard</li>
</ol>
<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/img_00025.png"></a></p>
<p><strong>3. Set Address Settings on Computer</strong></p>
<p>Now we need to put our computer on the same network as the iPhone so we will need to give it similar manual settings.</p>
<p>Click on the WiFi icon in the toolbar, and ‘Open Network Preferences’ at the bottom</p>
<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/picture-61.png"></a></p>
<p>Let’s create a new connection profile for using NetShare. This will keep you from having to go back and changing your settings whenever you get back home and want to use your original WiFi.</p>
<p>Click the ‘+’ at the bottom of the connection profiles to add a new service<br />
Leave Interface set to ‘AirPort’ and type in ‘iPhone NetShare’ for your Service Name</p>
<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/picture-91.png"></a></p>
<p>Select your new service from the list of profiles on the left, and choose the ‘Advanced’ button on the bottom right screen.</p>
<ol>
<li>Click TCP/IP tab</li>
<li>Change “Configure IPv4″ dropdown to ‘Manually’</li>
<li>Enter 10.10.10.1 in IP Address</li>
<li>Enter 255.255.255.0 in Subnet Mask</li>
<li>Click Proxies tab</li>
<li>Check the box next to Socks</li>
<li>Enter 10.10.10.10 in Socks Proxy Server box</li>
<li>Enter 1080 in Port (box after the ‘:’)</li>
</ol>
<p style="center;"><span style="underline;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/picture-112.png"></a></span></p>
<p style="center;"><span style="underline;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/picture-131.png"></a></span></p>
<p><strong>4. Turn on NetShare in Boss Prefs</strong></p>
<p>Tap Boss Prefs on the SpringBoard and set the NetShare toggle to ON</p>
<p>NOTE: NetShare will remain on even if you close Boss Prefs, so remember after you are done using the connection come back to Boss Prefs and turn the NetShare toggle to OFF to keep unwanted people from using your connection.</p>
<p style="center;"><a rel="lightbox[roadtrip]" href="http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/img_00092.png"></a></p>
