HP 2390 iPaq Smartphone
These instructions were created after hours of searching for up-to-date information on how to tether a MacBook laptop with the new Motorola V3xx and successfully connect to the internet. Most pages with any relevant information were years old and contained old connection information and settings. The connection settings below are based on using the USB port, as this seemed to be the most stable and reliable method. It is possible to connect using Bluetooth 2.0 enabled laptops after successfully pairing with the phone and setting up the device. (Bluetooth 1.0 does not work properly due to lower bandwidth than the 3G connection.) There may be many other ways to successfully connect to the internet using your mobile phone as a gateway, feel free to share your method with us.
These connection settings are based on modem scripts from our script gallery. These files will be required to complete the setup, and are available for download.
Steps for Establishing a Connection:
1. Connect phone via USB to computer, setup USB connection as shown
2. Confirm new mobile phone Network Port availability via System Preferences / Network / Show / Network Port Configurations window
3. Configure Network Port Account Name & Password (password: CINGULAR1)
4. Uncheck Advanced Options in PPP Settings / Details window as shown
5. Select “Configure Using PPP” in Network / TCP/IP Settings window
6. Select Select Motorola 3G CID2 script (previously installed) in Network / Modem window, uncheck “Wait for Dial Tone” preference.
7. Connect using V3xx via OSX Status Bar
